Meet Judge Conte
A lifetime devoted to justice and community.
Judge Joseph S. Conte spent twenty years on the New Jersey Superior Court for Bergen County, presiding over the Criminal and Civil divisions. Before the bench he served as a municipal judge and public defender, and today he teaches Criminal Law as an adjunct professor at Bergen Community College.
He is a former trustee of the Bergen Community College Foundation, a leader in the Rotary Club, Boys Club, and Chamber of Commerce, and a former board member of New Bridge Medical Center and the Ridgewood Red Cross.

Earns his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and is admitted to the Ohio Bar, the New Jersey Bar, the U.S. District Court for New Jersey, and the United States Supreme Court.

Served on the bench and as a public defender, ensuring every citizen receives a fair hearing.

Municipal Judge — Across Bergen County
Appointed Municipal Judge in Rochelle Park, Wallington, Upper Saddle River, NJ, and Ringwood, NJ — administering justice with fairness and dignity in five communities for 16 years.

Elected President — Municipal Judges Association
Elected by his peers as President of the Municipal Judges Association representing Bergen County — a recognition of his judicial leadership and integrity.

Superior Court Judge, Bergen Vicinage
Twenty years on the New Jersey Superior Court — Criminal and Civil divisions. Assigned four death-penalty and 25+ murder cases, and the first and only judge in the State to hear Sexually Violent Predator matters. Designated Prerogative Writ Judge for seven years.

Leads the firm's Alternate Dispute Resolution Department, resolving complex civil litigation, land-use, and governmental matters with the evenhandedness that defined his bench.

Appointed advisor to the Instituto de Seguridad y Protección of the Sistema Universitario Ana G. Méndez in San Juan — guiding training, discipline, and educational programs for the Puerto Rico Police Department. A bridge of service to Bergen County's Hispanic and Puerto Rican families.

Adjunct Professor & Trustee, Bergen Community College
Teaches Introduction to Criminal Justice and Criminal Law, and serves on the Board of Trustees — mentoring the next generation of Bergen County leaders.

Returns to elected service as Councilman of the Borough of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey.
